Welcome Back to school

Dear Suncrest Patrons,

Greetings!  What an exciting time for Suncrest and Geneva Elementary Schools! As most of you are aware the process has begun to consolidate Suncrest and Geneva into one school beginning this coming fall.  As part of this consolidation process, there has been a change in administration at Suncrest Elementary effective March 1st.   As the current principal of Geneva Elementary, I have also now been appointed principal of Suncrest Elementary, and will serve as principals of both schools for the remainder of this school year after which I will become the principal of the consolidated school. There is a myriad of questions that come with the consolidation process and most are still unanswered.  What we do know is that the consolidation will take place in the current Suncrest building and will consist of the current student-bodies of Geneva and Suncrest schools, with only a slight variation.  I am very excited for the possibilities that the consolidation brings and look forward to uniting both communities through shared strengths and a firm commitment to student success.  We also anticipate that there will be a renaming process for the consolidated school that will enhance the process of coming together.  Watch for a survey on name suggestions in the near future.

In order for you to get to know me a bit more, please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is John Shelton.  I have been with Alpine School District for the last 30 years including twenty years in the classroom and time as principal at both Westmore and Geneva Elementary Schools.  My wife and I raised our family of five girls in Orem and Lindon and love being in this community.  My favorite part of the job has been, and will always be, interacting with students.  I am committed to always doing what is best for them and whatever is necessary to help them be successful.  I am grateful again for the opportunity to be a part of this community and look forward to getting to know all of you.  I am also grateful for the foundation and legacy that Mr. Guzman leaves behind.  I know he will be greatly missed.  We wish him well in his new assignment.

We are also lucky to have had an assistant principal appointed for the consolidated school.  Mrs. Ana Rojas began her new assignment this week as well. Due to the fact that I will be rotating between two schools for the remainder of the school year, Mrs. Rojas’ home base will be the Suncrest building.  Please do not hesitate to contact either of us with questions or concerns.  Again, I look forward to meeting you and all the students.  Thank you for your support and help, especially during this consolidation time.  Have a wonderful day.
